Jens Juul Holst 1945年8月出生于丹麦哥本哈根,1978年获得哥本哈根大学医学博士学位,1996年开始任哥本哈根大学医学生理学教授,现任哥本哈根大学诺和诺德基金会基础代谢研究中心科学主任、哥本哈根大学生物医学系副主席等,是丹麦皇家科学院院士、丹麦自然科学院院士。担任Regulatory Peptides、Endocrinology、 Diabetes、J Clin Endocrinol Metab、J of Diabetes Investigation等杂志编委委员。
Holst教授是glp-1的发现者以及第一个阐明机制的科学家。他的科研工作的重点是研究胰腺和肠道的调节多肽以及它们在消化道和代谢功能上起到的调节作用,尤其是在血糖、食欲控制,肥胖和糖尿病方面。在这些调节多肽中,主要的研究重点是肠促胰岛素的作用。20多年来,Holst教授管理的研究所每年平均发表30-50篇研究论文,被哥本哈根大学4次授予金奖。Holst教授目前已发表约1648篇论文,其中包括约1300篇原创研究文章,专著章节和论文综述,ISI被引次数>65000,H指数达到128(截止2017年11月),是Lab Times统计的1996年至2006年全球被引次数最多的生理学家(存活的)。获2017年哈灵顿医学创新奖(2万美元,美国临床研究协会ASCI颁发) 、2015年 The Nordic Fernström Prize (100万瑞典克朗,北欧地区医学研究最高奖项之一)等奖项。培养了超过25名医学研究人员和30名博士生。

The scientific work has been focused on the regulatory peptides of the pancreas and the gut and their importance in the regulation of the functions of the GI-tract and metabolism, with particular focus on blood glucose and appetite regulation, obesity and diabetes. A particular emphasis has been on the role of the incretin hormones of the gut (GLP-1 and GIP).
